Advanta Safety First Aid Responder in the Workplace (FAR) Training Course

Course Overview

First Aid Response (FAR) is the new occupational first aid training standard in Ireland and is recognised by the Health & Safety Authority, HSE, Tusla etc. This course is suitable for anyone who has being assigned the role of first aider in the workplace or anyone who would like to learn about first aid in order to be able to help someone in need. This three-day course is delivered through the use of PowerPoint presentation, DVD, demonstration, and practice. We are currently delivering this course through a blended learning approach with two days delivered through live online webinar and one day classroom based to facilitate practice of first aid skills and assessments.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this First Aid Responder course learners will be able to:

  • Deal with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions in the pre-hospital environment until arrival of emergency medical services.

  • Provide First Aid Response for conditions not thought to be life-threatening but are necessary to prevent further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.

  • Provide pre-hospital First Aid Response in a wide range of environments including home and recreational settings.

  • Display the requisite personal skills including composure, competence and self-confidence while understanding their limitations.

  • Recognise and be able to cope with the additional challenges provided by “Special Circumstances” for which additional training must be completed.

  4. Cardiac Arrest, CPR & AED (Defibrillation)

  6. Care of the unconscious patient

  7. Burns & Electrical Injury

  8. Hypothermia & Hyperthermia

  9. Information Management

  10. Communications

  11. Well being of the First Aid Responder

Duration

18 Hours, delivered over three days (can be delivered through video conferencing (10 hours) and followed by one day face to face onsite for practical skills.

Assessment

Learners will be assessed on five FAR skills including CPR on the final day.

Certification

On successful completion of the course students will receive a First Aid Responder Certificate which is valid for 2 years.

This course is delivered in association with Qualtec, a PHECC Approved Training Institution.
