FAQ

  • This will depend on your job. If you will be lifting/moving/carrying inanimate objects, e.g. boxes, trays, equipment etc. then you will require basic Manual Handling training. However, if you are involved in Healthcare, e.g. nurse, healthcare assistant etc. then you will be required to complete the People Moving & Handling training course

  • A basic manual handling course will take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. A Full People Moving & Handling Course is a one day course.

  • You can now complete the theory section of your manual handing training online. However, the practical session is still required to be completed face to face where the instructor will assess your practical lifting skills.

  • Yes, under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005) and Manual Handling of Load Regulations (2007) employers are required to provide “information and training” to all employees to make them aware of correct lifting techniques and therefore reduce the risk of injury.

  • The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005) and Manual Handling of Load Regulations (2007) covers the requirements for Manual Handling in the workplace. Employers are required to provide “information and training” to all employees to make them aware of correct lifting techniques and therefore reduce the risk of injury. Employees are required to “attend training and take into account that training and instruction”.

  • If your manual handling certificate is out of date your will be required to attend another basic manual handling course of 2.5 to 3 hour duration.

  • Manual Handling certification can last up to three years. However, there are circumstances where an employee should attend training sooner than three years, e.g. their job has changed significantly, new system of work has been introduced, new equipment has been introduced, the person has been out injured and is returning to work etc.
