Course Overview

This 3.5-4 hour course is ideal for anyone wishing to learn about the four major life threatening emergencies and how best to deal with them: Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, Stroke & Choking.  The course is DVD led and your

instructor will explain and guide you through the theory and practical elements of the programme.

We run regular public courses or alternatively, this course can be delivered onsite for groups.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course participants will:​

  • Know how to react in an emergency situation

  • Recognise the signs of a life threatening emergency 

  • Respond in an effective, safe and appropriate manner, using basic life support skills

  • Be be competent in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for Cardiac Arrest

  • Report and Record their actions and treatment appropriately and handover to the emergency services

Patient Assessment

Adult, Child and Infant CPR

Function and use of Face Mask/Barrier Devices

Use of the Automated External Defibrillator - AED

Recovery (safe airway) Position

Adult, Child and Infant Choking

Heart Attack & Aspirin Administration

Stroke & FAST Assessment

Stress Management 


Participants will be required to demonstrate adequate practical skills (CPR & Defibrillation)


Successful participants receive a PHECC Cardiac First Responder Community Certificate (valid for 2 years)
